2002 PARISH SURVEY
In the Fall of 2002, parishioners were asked to complete a
questionnaire to help the Pastoral Council better understand the needs and
concerns of our parish. In all, there were 134 forms returned with the
overwhelming response to the survey being very positive.
The Pastoral Council appreciates and thanks all the respondents for
taking the time and effort to complete the survey. We will make every
attempt to take these various suggestions into consideration as we plan
for future activities at OLC.
General findings were:
Worship and Devotional Life: 85% rated the Masses, liturgies, and homilies in general, as
being on their level. Respondents
liked homilies that related to their lives and appreciated the humor that
accompanied them. While most
commented that they enjoyed the homilies, some would like them shorter and
more to the point. 71% found
the Music ministry as just right or “getting there”
and many said they “loved it!”
94% reported that the Mass times were convenient.
The 9:30am & 11am Masses were attended by 85% with the 5pm and
8am Masses equally divided among the remaining respondents.
Most said they liked to bring others (and especially
those who are not Catholic) to enjoy the Christian atmosphere at OLC.
People said it feels like home at our church and they liked the
non-judgmental attitude. Some
concerns were directed to the lack of explanation when changes were made
to the liturgy such as the elimination of the credo.
Regarding out-reach to people in the community, the
following suggestions were made: offer transportation; visits by teens as
community service; taping of a special Mass that would be provided to our
home-bound parishioners; ask our home-bound members to participate in the
Prayer Line so that they would feel they are making a contribution to the
life of the parish; put homilies on the web site; sponsor an open house
for the new Pastoral Center; have a “bring a friend to Mass” weekend
and orient the homily to that theme; and advertise our events at other
local-area churches.
Social activities that parishioners would like to see
at OLC were all selected with Bull/Oyster Roasts and Bus Trips receiving
the highest percent of interest. Festivals,
picnics, bingo and dances were also activities that were of great
interest. Over 90% seemed to
feel that such activities would develop a greater sense of community.
