Local Catholic
Schools
St. Jane Frances de Chantal Catholic
School
St. Jane Frances School (PreK-3 through Grade 8) is
located in Pasadena, Maryland. The school served the parishioners of St.
Jane Frances Church (which included people who attended from the south
Mountain Road area) before Our Lady of the Chesapeake was formed. The two
parishes have much in common as each grew from the deep faith and love they
have for their God.
The mission of St. Jane Frances School is centered
around a faith community, which fosters the intellectual, spiritual, moral,
cultural and social development of its students.
St. Jane Frances School emphasizes the development of
basic skills, as well as the arts, in a small group setting through
child-centered teaching using a variety of learning styles. Subjects are
presented with consideration for the needs of the individual child as the
primary focus.
The school offers all special subjects, including
Spanish. They also offer a full-time R.N., counselor, and extended
daycare. St. Jane additionally offers a program for students who have been
identified as needing special education. A certified Special Education
Teacher along with a qualified assistant work with students in a resource
room. St. Jane Frances is the only Catholic School in Anne Arundel County
offering the program known as PRIDE.
Tours are offered at the school throughout the year.
Potential students are encouraged to shadow for a day to get a true feel for
the warm atmosphere present. Please call the school at 410-255-4750 for
details and information; or visit their web site at
www.stjaneschool.org.
Arthur Slade Regional Catholic School
Since 1954, Arthur Slade Regional Catholic
School in Glen Burnie has been
providing excellence in education to Anne Arundel County residents. Arthur
Slade is a co-educational institution comprised of grades K-8 as well as a
state-approved Edu-Care Center providing pre-school services for 3-4
year-olds and a part-time nursery school program for children ages 2-4.
The mission of the school is to nurture
and enhance the development of the whole child. Values taught are not
limited to the classroom but rather become an integral part of the
student's daily life.
In addition to exceptional academics, the
school provides a host of extracurricular activities including an
award-winning instrumental band program, service projects, soccer,
basketball, track and field, National Junior Honor Society, chorus,
theatre, art club, yearbook, computer club, cheerleading and student
council.
Supplementary school services are offered
by full-time specialists in the areas of remedial reading, guidance,
Spanish and computer technology. For more information or to arrange a tour
of Arthur Slade, you may call the school at 410-766-7130, or log on to the
school's website at www.arthurslade.org.
Additionally, during the springtime, Arthur Slade
presents its "Manhattan After Dark," the two best nights in Anne
Arundel County that just keep getting better. Every year Arthur
Slade fills each room in the school with the entertainment, food, and fun
atmosphere of Manhattan. See the Decades Lounge, Big Band Sounds, Top 40
Dancing, the Comedy Club, Karaoke, Times Square Silent Auction, together
with a restaurant, deli, and cafe.
Pasadena Area Ministerial Association
The Pasadena Area Ministerial Association,
which began on January 25, 1999, is an ecumenical coalition of clergy from
the general Pasadena area. Once a month the association meets to provide
opportunities for fellowship, prayer, study, and to explore areas at the
grass-roots level for inter-church dialogue and cooperation in a true
Christ-like spirit.
All churches, regardless of denomination,
are most welcome to attend any of the association's gatherings. For
additional information on the date, time, and location of the next meeting
of the association, please contact any of these churches: Emmanuel
Evangelical Lutheran (410-255-4141), St. Andrew's Episcopal
(410-255-1070), Community United Methodist (410-255-1506), St. Jane
Frances (410-255-4646), Galilee Lutheran (410-255- 8236), Mt. Carmel

Past Events:
Ecumenical
Service of Healing and Thanksgiving
In response to the
national tragedy of September 11, Our Lady of the Chesapeake, together
with the churches of the Pasadena Area Ministerium, sponsored
"Patriot Dream: An Ecumenical Service of Healing and
Thanksgiving."
The service was held on
Sunday, November 18 at 4PM, at the Community United Methodist Church, 8680
Ft. Smallwood Road (410-255-1506).
The program featured
readings, hymns, reflections, and prayers of healing and thanksgiving,
with a special acknowledgment made to those men and women who provide
emergency medical, police, postal, and fire services for our Pasadena
community.
A collection of
non-perishable food was made during the service and donated to the North
County Emergency Outreach Network (NCEON). The service was open to the
entire public and everyone was invited to attend.
Pasadena Business Association
The mission of the Pasadena
Business Association is to promote the socio-economic environment of
Pasadena and surrounding areas by working to support the community,
interacting with government agencies, and by providing a platform for
members to promote and grow their businesses. The Pasadena Business
Association was established in 1986 by Ed Lauer and had 35 original
members. Today, there are over 260 members, to include Our Lady of the
Chesapeake Parish which joined in January 2001.
The Pasadena Business Association is
extremely active in giving back to the community. The Annual Scholarship
Roast, held each March, helps with the funding of college scholarships to
students at both Northeast and Chesapeake High Schools. The annual
"Caring and Sharing Parade" held each November not only is
entertaining, but has collected food and monetary donations that have gone
to support local food pantries who then provide support to families living
right here in Pasadena. Members have also been involved in providing
Christmas baskets and toys to families who children are attending our
local schools
As we at Our Lady of the Chesapeake strive
to be a visible sign of God's great love on the peninsula of Lake Shore in
the community of Pasadena, we are very proud to be a member of the
Pasadena Business Association whose tag line is "Great Businesses
Making A Great Community."

Prayer
for the Safety
of those in Service
to Our Country
and for Peace
God
of Power and Might, Wisdom, and Justice,
through you, authority is rightly administered,
laws are enacted, and judgment is decreed.
Assist
the President and other government leaders of these United States
with your Spirit of Counsel and Fortitude.
May they--and all the world's leaders--always strive to seek your ways of righteousness, justice,
mercy, and
peace.
We
pray, Lord, that amidst worldly strife our lives may become a divine vision
and in your light all darkness may vanish;
and we, your children on earth, may all unite in one family.
Almighty
and Eternal God,
those who take refuge in you will be glad
and forever will shout for joy.
Hold in your loving hands all those
in the service of our country
as they discharge their duties.
Protect them with the shield of your strength
and keep them safe from all evil and harm.
May
the power of your love enable them to return home in safety
so that, together with all those who love them,
they may forever praise you for your loving care.
We especially ask your blessing upon all the men and women of our Armed
Forces serving in the Persian Gulf, Afghanistan, and anyplace where they
stand in harm's way.
