Habitat for Humanity
Arundel
Habitat for Humanity is an ecumenical Christian housing ministry dedicated
to helping families living in substandard housing throughout Anne Arundel
County. It is a volunteer, non-profit organization which receives no
government funding. Successes result from the team efforts of
volunteers, contributors, supporters, and families. The Habitat
program is built around the concept of giving "a hand up" not
"a hand out." The families that meet all of the selection
criteria and complete the selection process put both money and work into a
Habitat house. Each family pays a mortgage on their Habitat home.
They also put "sweat equity" (work time) into their own or
another Habitat home. The pride and responsibility of home ownership
encourages Habitat home owners to take pride in their neighborhood and
community.
Arundel
Habitat for Humanity currently needs volunteers to help with construction
and is also in need of volunteer crew leaders. Volunteer crew
leaders are committed volunteers of varying skill levels who accept
responsibility, under the direction of the Habitat staff, for leading a
group of 1-6 volunteers at the work site. Crew leaders are scheduled
to work 1-3 Wednesdays or Saturdays per month. Please call
410-384-9212 or visit the Arundel
Habitat for Humanity web site for more
information on this ministry.
Project Rachel
Project
Rachel is a ministry of healing and reconciliation for men and women
suffering from the trauma of abortion. If you, or someone you know,
might benefit from this ministry, please call Project Rachel
at 410-354-6900 (toll-free 800-286-4224); or visit the Project Rachel
web site.
Abortion is
one of the most traumatic experiences a person can have. Both before
and after abortion, feelings of fear, anxiety, guilt, panic and pressure
are common--not only for the woman who undergoes the abortion, but also
for the father of the unborn child, the grandparents, close friends, and
even medical personnel. For Catholics, the pain of abortion is intensified
by a sense of alienation from God and the Church.
If you are in
this position, we want you to know that your Church understands and cares.
We are a loving and forgiving Church, reaching out to you in compassion
and concern. Above all, we want to help you through the healing
process. The Archdiocese of Baltimore invites you to participate in
Project Rachel, where specially trained priests and mental health
professionals are waiting to help you.
Project
Rachel is a sensitive, private, and confidential experience. Your
meeting with a priest will focus on inner healing, spiritual direction,
and preparation for the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Also available to you
as a part of Project Rachel is counseling with specially trained mental
health professionals. Such counseling, before and/or after the
Sacrament of Reconciliation, can help you sort through feelings and deal
with unresolved conflicts.
Project
Rachel is a means for you to receive the healing grace of God, and the
caring and support you need to move toward reconciliation with yourself,
your unborn child, your family, your Church, and God.
Mary's Center
A center for
pregnant women, Mary's Center provides free counseling, baby clothes,
maternity clothes, and cribs for those in need. Members of our
parish regularly take our donations of clothes and materials to the
center, donating their time and efforts while there as well.
For more
information, contact Mary's Center at 410-761-8082.
